There are lots of good bits to it but some …:The term flow can be used to refer to several completely different things in Dwarf Fortress: things like miasma and smoke, and the mechanism by which water and magma move. This article describes the latter. Flow is a game mechanic used to simulate the motion of fluids. The two fluids that exist in Dwarf Fortress currently are water and magma. The afflicted body part produces miasma from time to time. Prepared food will rot the same as meat , cheese , eggs , and prepared fish , but plants will wither instead of producing miasma. The only places where food will not rot are: in a stockpile, a trade depot , the embark wagon , a minecart , when used as a reaction component, or while ... When you see flies or miasma, try to hit K and see what's on the ground near them.
